History of the building

The Walker Building circa 1855

In 1865, John Walker, a cabinet maker from Port Hope, purchased a three-and-a-half-story brick building located in downtown Port Hope. Initially, the building served as both a furniture showroom and a funeral parlour, a common practice in the nineteenth century.

Today, the Walker Building has been fully updated and now houses two urban restaurants, several residences on the upper floors, and a media company.

One of the restaurants, Twentysix, is an industrial space renowned for its casual fine dining. The striking long bar is the perfect spot to enjoy expertly crafted classic and contemporary cocktails, along with a selection of fine wines and craft beers. Twentysix features a high-energy, industrial space, highlighted by a three-story ceiling with 170-year-old exposed brick and beams.

This trendy venue offers a unique and stylish backdrop for your special day.

Details

Civil ceremonies can be planned through the municipality at the town hall. On warmer days the ceremony can be held outside the town hall on the river by the Gazebo.
